Opening MyLimb

Preparing your MyLimb experience…

MyLimb Terms of Service

These terms are an agreement between you and MyLimb Tech, Inc., a Delaware corporation (“MyLimb”, “we”, “us”, “our”), the operator of MyLimb — the website at www.mylimb.org and the MyLimb mobile apps for iPhone and Android (together, “MyLimb” or “the Service”).

Please read them. They cover what you can expect from us, what we expect from you, and what happens when things go wrong.

By creating an account, or by using MyLimb, you accept these terms. If you don’t accept them, please don’t use the Service.

1. Acceptance — and acceptance before posting

You accept these terms when you create your MyLimb account.

Before you can post, comment, upload an image or video, or otherwise contribute content to MyLimb, you must accept these terms. We record that acceptance — the date, and the version you accepted. If we materially change these terms, we will ask you to accept the new version before you contribute again. Contributing also means following our Community Guidelines, which set out what is and isn’t allowed here.

Your continued use of MyLimb after a change takes effect means you accept the change. If you don’t accept it, you can stop using the Service and delete your account.

2. Who can use MyLimb

You may use MyLimb only if:

  • you are at least 13 years old;
  • you can form a binding contract with us, or you have your parent or guardian’s consent where the law requires it;
  • you have not previously been banned from MyLimb; and
  • you are not barred from using the Service under any law that applies to you.

2.1 The mobile apps are 18+

The MyLimb apps for iPhone and Android are rated 18+ and are intended for adults only. If you are under 18, please use MyLimb through the website at www.mylimb.org instead — the community is the same.

This is a restriction on the apps, not on the community. The service-wide minimum age above is what governs your MyLimb account.

MyLimb is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly allow anyone under 13 to create an account or provide personal information. See our Privacy Policy.

Parents and caregivers of children with limb difference are very welcome here. Where the account is for a child, it must belong to and be operated by the adult — not the child.

If we learn that an account holder is under the minimum age, we will remove the account. If we learn that someone under 18 is using the mobile apps, we may restrict them to the website.

Some US states — including Texas, Utah and Louisiana — require app stores and developers to verify user ages and to obtain parental consent for minors. Because our mobile apps are 18+ and are not offered to minors, we do not expect to receive parental-consent signals through the app stores; where Apple or Google does share an age category with us, we use it only to enforce the 18+ rating.

3. Your account

You must provide accurate and up-to-date account information and keep your sign-in credentials secure. You are responsible for activity that occurs through your account until you notify us of suspected unauthorized access. You may not share, sell, transfer, or create accounts to avoid a suspension or ban. If you violate these rules, we may restrict or suspend your account.

4. What MyLimb is — and what it isn’t

MyLimb is a peer community. Members share their experiences of limb loss and limb difference, ask questions, post reviews of products and services, read and write articles, attend events, and find each other.

4.1 Not a medical device, not medical advice

MyLimb is not a medical device and does not provide medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment.

Everything on MyLimb — posts, comments, reviews, articles, guides, search results, and anything MyLimb itself publishes — is peer experience and general information. It is not a substitute for professional medical care.

  • Always consult a qualified clinician about your own health, your prosthesis, your rehabilitation, your medication, and any symptom that worries you.
  • Never disregard or delay professional medical advice because of something you read on MyLimb.
  • No doctor–patient, prosthetist–patient, or other clinical relationship is created by using MyLimb, including where a member identifies as a clinician or professional.
  • Where members identify as clinicians or professionals, they speak for themselves and not for us. We do not verify or endorse every credential, claim, product or service mentioned on MyLimb, and we are not responsible for advice one member gives another.
  • MyLimb has not been evaluated or cleared by the US Food and Drug Administration, and is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease or condition.
  • In an emergency, call 911 or your local emergency number. Do not use MyLimb to seek urgent help.

4.2 Reviews and product information

Member reviews are personal opinions. Prostheses, components, liners, and clinical services work differently for different people and different bodies. A review is one person’s experience, not a recommendation for you.

5. Your content

5.1 You own what you post

You keep ownership of everything you post to MyLimb — your posts, comments, replies, reviews, articles, photos, videos, profile text and images (“Your Content”).

5.2 The license you give us

To operate and improve the Service, you give MyLimb a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, reproduce, display, adapt, and distribute that content only for operating, providing, securing, moderating, improving, and promoting the Service. This license ends when your content or account is deleted, except that post or comment text may remain without your name or profile information where needed to preserve conversation threads or where retention is required by law or for safety and security purposes. We do not sell Your Content and we do not license it for advertising. See the Privacy Policy and our deletion page.

In plain terms, this license lets us: show your post to other members; resize and re-encode your images and videos so they load on a phone; cache and back it up; run it through automated safety screening; generate accessibility text for images; include it in search results and notifications; and — where Your Content is in a public area of MyLimb — show it to people who aren’t logged in, and allow it to be indexed by search engines.

We may use aggregated or de-identified information derived from content on MyLimb — information that does not identify you — to understand and improve the Service.

Sublicensing is limited to the service providers (hosting, storage, video delivery, email, safety screening) doing this work for us, and to other members receiving your content through normal use of the Service.

5.3 What you promise about your content

By posting, you confirm that:

  • you own Your Content or have the rights to post it;
  • it doesn’t infringe anyone’s copyright, trademark, privacy or other rights;
  • you have consent from any identifiable person in a photo or video you upload;
  • it doesn’t break these terms, the Community Guidelines, or any law that applies to you.

5.4 Public and private areas

Some rooms and profiles on MyLimb are public and visible to anyone, including people without an account and search engines. Others are private and visible only to members of that room. Assume anything you post may be seen more widely than you intend, and be careful about health details you would not want linked to you. Private rooms are private as a matter of platform access control, not secrecy — other members can still copy what they see, and we can’t prevent that.

6. Objectionable content and conduct — prohibited

You must not post, upload, or transmit objectionable content, and you must not behave abusively toward other members. This is a condition of using MyLimb, and we enforce it.

Objectionable content and conduct includes:

  • Harassment and bullying — targeting or intimidating a member, threats, pile-ons, unwanted repeated contact, stalking a member across the platform.
  • Hate speech — attacks, slurs, or dehumanizing content based on disability, race, ethnicity, national origin, caste, religion, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, or serious illness. Ableist abuse is included.
  • Sexual content — pornography, sexually explicit material, sexual solicitation of members, and sexualization or fetishization of limb difference or disability.
  • Child sexual abuse and exploitation (CSAE) — absolutely prohibited, zero tolerance. See Section 7.
  • Violence — threats, incitement to violence, or glorification of harm to people.
  • Self-harm and suicide promotion — encouraging self-harm or suicide, or providing methods or instructions. Sharing your own struggle is allowed; promoting harm is not.
  • Medical misinformation — false or dangerous health claims, including claims that a treatment cures limb loss, promotion of unproven or dangerous treatments, and discouraging members from seeking qualified medical care.
  • Impersonation — pretending to be another person, a clinician, an organization, or MyLimb staff, or falsely claiming credentials or qualifications.
  • Spam and commercial abuse — bulk, repetitive or automated posting, engagement farming, undisclosed advertising, affiliate spam, MLM recruitment, harvesting member details for marketing.
  • Fraud and exploitation — scams, fraudulent fundraising, fake sales, phishing, or exploiting newly-injured or vulnerable members.
  • Privacy violations — posting another person’s private or identifying information without consent; posting patient information or clinical images.
  • Illegal content or activity — including the unlawful sale of prescription medication or regulated devices.
  • Intellectual property infringement — posting others’ work as your own.
  • Technical abuse — malware, scraping, automated access, probing or interfering with the Service or its security, reverse engineering, circumventing rate limits or access controls, or overwhelming our systems.
  • Enforcement evasion — ban evasion, sock-puppet accounts, or manipulating votes, likes or reports.
  • Abuse of reporting — knowingly false reports or coordinated mass-reporting.

6.1 Bodies, medical imagery and content warnings

MyLimb is a limb loss community, and images of residual limbs, scars, stumps, sockets, liners, prostheses and healing progress are normal, expected, and welcome content. We do not treat them as obscene or sexual, and we will not remove them for being what they are.

However:

  • Graphic medical imagery requires a content warning. Fresh surgical sites, open wounds, infection, exposed tissue or bone, sutures, necrosis, severe trauma, and surgical or post-operative photographs must be flagged in the first line of your post.
  • We may blur graphic medical imagery or place it behind a warning screen, whether or not you flagged it. This is a presentation decision to protect members who are newly injured or distressed; it is not a finding that you did anything wrong.
  • You may not post images of another identifiable person’s body without their consent, and you may not post clinical or patient photographs.
  • Graphic imagery posted to shock or distress, rather than as genuine experience or a genuine question, will be removed.
  • Nothing sexual, as set out above, regardless of the medical framing.

7. Child safety — zero tolerance

MyLimb and MyLimb Tech, Inc. have zero tolerance for child sexual abuse and exploitation (CSAE).

Child sexual abuse material, sexualization of minors, grooming, sextortion, trafficking, and the solicitation, advertisement or trading of any of it are absolutely prohibited. There are no exceptions.

Where we identify CSAE content or conduct we will remove it, permanently terminate the account without warning, preserve the relevant records, and report to law enforcement and to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) as required or permitted by law.

Report anything of this kind immediately: use the in-app report, and email safety@mylimb.org. If a child is in immediate danger, contact law enforcement first.

Our published child safety standards are in the Community Guidelines.

8. Moderation and enforcement

8.1 Our rights

We may remove content or warn, restrict, suspend, or terminate accounts if we reasonably believe these Terms, our Community Guidelines, or the law have been violated, or if doing so is needed to protect users, MyLimb, or others. Where appropriate, we may explain the reason and allow an appeal, but we may act without prior notice in urgent cases, including safety, security, child safety, threats of violence, fraud, or legal compliance. You may delete your account at any time.

The measures available to us include removing, hiding, blurring or adding a content warning to content; limiting its visibility; restricting what an account can do, including temporarily preventing posting; and suspending or terminating an account. We may also preserve or disclose records where we believe in good faith that the law requires it or that it is necessary to prevent serious harm.

We may act on content that breaks these terms, and we may also act on off-platform conduct where it creates a real risk to members here.

We are not obliged to monitor content, but we do: every post, comment and article is automatically screened for harmful text and images at the time it is posted, and flagged items are removed and go to human moderators. Images may be withheld from other members while screening completes. Automated screening is imperfect and may hold or flag content wrongly.

8.2 Reporting, and our response commitment

Every post and comment can be reported in-app, with a reason (spam, harassment, hate speech, violence, inappropriate content, misinformation, copyright, privacy, impersonation, self-harm, child safety or exploitation, illegal content, or other). You can also email support@mylimb.org.

We commit to reviewing and acting on reports of objectionable content and abusive users within 24 hours, and to removing content and ejecting members who breach these terms. Child-safety reports are prioritized ahead of all others.

We will notify the reporter when we have acted. We will not disclose details of enforcement action taken against another member’s account.

8.3 Appeals

If your content was removed or your account restricted and you believe we got it wrong, reply to the notice you received or email support@mylimb.org. We’ll review it. Decisions on CSAE and on threats of violence are final.

8.4 Blocking

You may block another member; blocking limits their ability to interact with you. Blocking is not a substitute for reporting — if someone is breaking these terms, please report them so we can act.

9. Deleting your account

You can delete your account at any time: Profile → Settings → scroll to Danger zone → Delete my account, on the web or in the app, or by the no-app route described on our deletion page. When you do, we will delete or de-identify personal information associated with your account as described in our Privacy Policy, including your profile and uploaded media, subject to limited retention for legal, safety, fraud-prevention, security, backup, or dispute-resolution purposes. To preserve community conversations, post or comment text may remain without your name or profile information unless you choose available deletion options described in the Privacy Policy.

We may also terminate or suspend your account for breach of these terms, for prolonged inactivity, or if we discontinue the Service.

10. Our content and intellectual property

MyLimb — the platform, its software, design, branding, logos, and the content we ourselves publish — belongs to us or our licensors. These terms don’t give you any rights to it beyond using the Service as intended.

Don’t copy, scrape, resell, or build a competing service from MyLimb’s content or data. Don’t remove or obscure proprietary notices. Don’t use the MyLimb name or logos without written permission.

10.1 Copyright complaints (DMCA)

We respond to notices of alleged copyright infringement under the US Digital Millennium Copyright Act.

Send notices to our designated agent:

Jeff Rainwater, Designated Copyright Agent
MyLimb Tech, Inc.
1024 N Highland Ave
Murfreesboro, TN 37130
United States
copyright@mylimb.org

Your notice must include: identification of the copyrighted work; identification and location (URL) of the material you say infringes it; your contact details; a statement that you have a good-faith belief the use is not authorized by the owner, its agent, or the law; a statement, under penalty of perjury, that the information is accurate and that you are the owner or authorized to act for them; and your physical or electronic signature.

We will remove or disable access to material as appropriate, notify the member who posted it, accept counter-notices, and terminate the accounts of repeat infringers.

11. Third-party content and links

MyLimb contains content posted by members and links to third-party websites, products, clinicians and services. We don’t control, endorse, verify, or take responsibility for any of it. Your dealings with third parties — including buying a product a member recommended, or engaging a clinician you found here — are between you and them.

12. Availability and changes to the Service

We aim to keep MyLimb running, but we don’t promise uninterrupted or error-free service. We may change, suspend, or discontinue features — or the whole Service — at any time. Where a change is material and we reasonably can, we’ll give notice.

13. Disclaimers

The Service is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis to the fullest extent permitted by law. We do not promise that the Service will always be available, uninterrupted, secure, error-free, or accurate, or that community or health-related content will be complete, reliable, or suitable for your situation. Nothing in these Terms excludes liability that cannot be excluded under applicable law.

14. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, MyLimb and its affiliates will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for loss of profits, revenue, data, goodwill, or reputation arising from or related to the Service. Our total aggregate liability for all claims relating to the Service will not exceed the greater of (a) the amount you paid us for the Service in the 12 months before the claim arose or (b) $10, if you paid nothing, except where liability cannot be limited under applicable law.

15. Indemnity

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless MyLimb Tech, Inc. and its officers, directors, employees and agents from claims, damages, losses and reasonable legal costs arising out of Your Content, your use of the Service, or your breach of these terms or of any law or third-party right.

16. Privacy

Privacy. Our Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, retain, disclose, and protect personal information, and it forms part of these Terms. By using the Service, you acknowledge that your personal information will be handled as described in the Privacy Policy.

Relationship Between These Terms and the Privacy Policy. These Terms, the Community Guidelines, and the Privacy Policy together govern your use of the Service. If there is a conflict between these Terms and the Privacy Policy about how personal information is collected, used, retained, or disclosed, the Privacy Policy will control for that privacy issue. For all other issues, these Terms will control. Note in particular that profile information you choose to share about your limb difference, amputation or health is sensitive information, and that you control whether to provide it.

17. Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the State of Delaware, without regard to conflict-of-law rules.

The state and federal courts located in Nashville, Tennessee have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising out of or in connection with these terms, and you and we consent to their jurisdiction and venue.

18. General

Changes to these terms. We may update the Service and these Terms from time to time. If we make a material change, we will give reasonable notice in the app, by email, or by other appropriate means before the change takes effect. If you continue to use the Service after the effective date, or if we ask you to click to accept the updated Terms before certain actions, the updated Terms will apply from that point forward.

Severability. If a provision is unenforceable, the rest stays in force.

No waiver. If we don’t enforce a provision, that isn’t a waiver of it.

Assignment. You may not assign these terms. We may assign them to an affiliate or in connection with a merger, acquisition or sale of assets.

Entire agreement. These terms, the Community Guidelines and the Privacy Policy are the whole agreement between us about the Service.

Export and sanctions. You confirm you are not located in a country subject to US embargo and are not on any US government restricted-party list.

Apple and Google. The MyLimb apps are distributed through the Apple App Store and Google Play, and the store’s own terms apply in addition to these. The app binary is licensed to you under Apple’s standard End User License Agreement for apps downloaded from the App Store. Apple and Google are not parties to these terms and are not responsible for the Service or its content.

Language. These terms are written in English. Any translation is for convenience; the English version governs.
