Delete your MyLimb account
This page explains how to delete your MyLimb account and what happens to your data when you do.
MyLimb is operated by MyLimb Tech, Inc., a Delaware corporation (“MyLimb”). This page applies to the MyLimb apps for iPhone and Android and to the website at www.mylimb.org.
You can delete your account whether or not you still have the app installed. Both routes are below.
Option 1 — Delete in the app
- Open the MyLimb app (or go to www.mylimb.org and sign in).
- Tap your Profile.
- Go to Settings.
- Scroll to Danger zone.
- Tap Delete my account.
- Confirm when asked.
Your account is closed straight away and deletion is processed as described below.
Option 2 — Delete without the app
You don’t need to install or reinstall anything. Use the form below, or email support@mylimb.org from the email address on your account with the subject “Delete my account”.
Please enter the email address registered on your MyLimb account — that’s the fastest way for us to confirm the request is genuinely yours. In your message, include:
- the email address on the account;
- your display name on MyLimb, if you remember it.
How we verify you. We’ll reply with a confirmation code sent to the account’s registered email address, and ask you to send it back. If you no longer have access to that mailbox, tell us — but because your email address is the only way we can identify you, we may not be able to verify a request from a mailbox you’ve lost. Send the form from any address you can receive mail at, with the old address and your display name, and we’ll tell you either way. We will never ask for health details or photos as proof. We do this so nobody else can delete your account.
How long it takes. We aim to acknowledge your request within 3 business days and complete deletion within 30 days. Backups cycle out within a further 30 days. We’ll email you when it’s done.
There is no charge.
Want only part of your data deleted — your photo, your limb-difference details, a particular post? Use the same form and tell us what you’d like removed, and we’ll do that instead of deleting the account.
What gets deleted
When you delete your account, we permanently remove:
- Your account, and your ability to sign in
- Your name, username and email address
- Your profile — photo, bio, website and social links, clinician details, and any limb-difference information you had entered (how you describe yourself, and time since amputation)
- Every photo and video you uploaded — in posts, in comments, on your profile, everywhere they appear
- Your push notification tokens and notification preferences
- Your room memberships (public and private), follows, likes and event RSVPs
- Your referral code and any invitations you had pending
- Your analytics profile and its link to your identifiers
What happens to things you posted
The text of your posts and comments stays in the community, detached from any account — your name, photo and profile link are removed from it, and it is no longer connected to you. Photos and videos are different: they are always deleted with your account, everywhere they appear.
If you want the text gone too, tell us and we’ll remove it all — use the form above, or the contact form on our Support page, and say you want everything you posted deleted along with your account.
One thing to know: if you wrote personal details inside the text of a post — your name, your town, your clinic, your medical history — that text stays unless you remove it. The posts are no longer connected to any account, but words you wrote may still identify you. If you want them gone, delete those posts before you delete your account, or ask us to delete everything you posted.
What we may keep, and why
We keep only what we have to. Nothing below is used to contact you or to rebuild a profile of you.
| What we keep | Why | How long |
|---|---|---|
| A one-way hash of your email address — only if we closed your account for cause | To stop an account we closed for cause being recreated | For as long as the ban is in force — indefinitely, unless the law requires us to delete it |
| Your messages to us, including this deletion request | To show the request was made and handled | 24 months |
| Minimal records of moderation actions and serious safety incidents | Member safety and preventing repeat harm | For as long as the ban is in force — indefinitely, unless the law requires us to delete it |
| Records relating to child sexual abuse and exploitation | Legal obligation; preserved for law enforcement | As long as the law requires |
| Security and server logs that contain your IP address | Investigating fraud, abuse and security incidents | 6 months, then deleted on the normal cycle |
| Backup copies | Overwritten on our normal backup cycle | Within 30 days |
| Tax, accounting and legal-claim records | Legal obligation | As long as the law requires |
| Aggregated statistics that cannot identify you | Understanding how MyLimb is used | Indefinitely |
Apart from the rows above, we do not keep your profile, your health or limb-difference information, your email address, or your content beyond what’s described on this page.
Things worth knowing before you delete
- Deletion is permanent. We cannot restore a deleted account, its content or its history. An email address that was used on a deleted account cannot currently be used to open a new one, so treat deletion as final.
- Anything that was public may have been copied. Content posted in public areas of MyLimb may persist in other people’s screenshots, in search-engine caches, or in web archives. We can’t reach those.
- Other people’s posts stay. If someone quoted or replied to you, their post remains.
- Deleting the app is not the same as deleting your account. Uninstalling stops notifications but leaves your account and data in place. Use one of the two routes above.
Just want a break instead?
You don’t have to delete everything:
- Turn off notifications — Profile → Settings → Notifications, or in your phone’s settings.
- Clear parts of your profile — from Edit Profile you can edit your name, bio and profile photo, and remove the limb-difference details (how you describe yourself, and time since amputation).
- Delete individual posts — use the menu on any post or comment.
- Leave a room — from the room itself.
