MyLimb Community Guidelines
MyLimb is a community for people living with limb loss and limb difference — along with their families, and the prosthetists, therapists, clinicians, manufacturers and researchers who work alongside them.
MyLimb is operated by MyLimb Tech, Inc., a Delaware corporation.
These guidelines explain what we expect from everyone here. They sit alongside our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy. Where the Terms are the formal agreement, these guidelines are the plain version — but breaking them has real consequences, up to and including losing your account.
The short version
Be the person you needed when you were new to this.
Most people arrive at MyLimb at a hard moment — a recent amputation, a child’s diagnosis, a prosthesis that isn’t working, a bill nobody warned them about. What they need is honesty, patience, and somebody who has been there. That is what this community is for.
What makes this community work
Speak from your own experience. “Here’s what happened to me” is the most valuable thing you can post. It is also honest in a way that advice often isn’t.
Assume good faith. People phrase things badly, especially when they’re frightened or in pain. Read the intent before you read the wording.
Respect the range of experience here. Congenital limb difference is not the same as traumatic amputation, which is not the same as diabetic or vascular limb loss. Someone who loves their prosthesis and someone who has chosen not to wear one are both fully at home here. Neither has to justify themselves.
Let people describe themselves. Amputee, limb different, person with limb loss — members use different words about their own bodies and all of them are valid. Use the words a person uses about themselves.
Keep confidences. Do not screenshot or repost what someone shared in a private room. Do not identify someone who posted anonymously or in confidence.
Credit and correct. If you share someone else’s article, photo or research, say where it came from. If you get something wrong, edit it or say so — nobody thinks less of you for it.
Bodies, photos and medical imagery
This is a community where residual limbs are ordinary. Photos of residual limbs, scars, stumps, sockets, liners, prostheses and healing progress are normal, welcome content here, and we are not going to treat your body as something obscene.
There is a line, though, and it is about consent and context, not modesty:
- Post your own body, not somebody else’s. Never post identifiable photos of another person’s body — including your child’s — in a way they have not agreed to. Never post clinical photographs of a patient. Clinicians: no patient images, ever, consent or not, unless fully de-identified and lawful.
- Warn before graphic content. Fresh surgical sites, open wounds, infections, exposed tissue, bone, sutures, necrosis, severe trauma, and surgical or post-operative photographs need a content warning. Say what’s in the image in the first line of your post. We may also blur these images or place them behind a warning screen — that is not a judgment on you or your body, it is so that someone scrolling at 2am with a new amputation isn’t ambushed.
- Never post graphic imagery for shock. Injury or gore posted to disturb people, rather than to ask a genuine question or share a genuine experience, will be removed.
- Nothing sexual. Nudity or sexual content involving limb difference — including fetish content, and including soliciting photos from members — has no place here and will get the account removed. Members should not have to field this anywhere on MyLimb.
Privacy and confidentiality
Do not post or disclose personal information, confidential information, health information, or private communications about yourself or others unless you have the legal right and all necessary consent to do so. You are solely responsible for the information you choose to share. MyLimb may remove content that creates privacy, confidentiality, safety, or legal risk, and may preserve or disclose information where MyLimb considers it necessary to enforce its policies, protect users, comply with law, or respond to legal process. MyLimb’s handling of personal information is governed by its Privacy Policy, and MyLimb may use service providers and security measures to operate and protect the service.
Health information
Members here know an enormous amount, and sharing what worked for you is the heart of this community. But:
- MyLimb is not a medical service and does not give medical advice, diagnosis, treatment, billing advice, business advice or emergency services. Content on MyLimb is for general informational and peer-support purposes only and is not a substitute for professional judgment or care. Users are solely responsible for their own health decisions, for verifying information before acting on it, and for obtaining appropriate professional advice and emergency assistance. If you or someone else is in danger, call 911 or your local emergency number. MyLimb may remove content that presents material risk of harm, promotes dangerous misinformation, or discourages users from seeking appropriate professional care.
- Share experience, don’t prescribe. “This liner fixed my skin breakdown” is experience. “Stop taking your medication” is not yours to say.
- Share your experience, not your records. Nobody needs your diagnosis codes, your appointment dates, your insurance details or your clinician’s name to help you. What happened, and what helped, is plenty.
- Don’t post health misinformation. Claims that a treatment cures limb loss, that prostheses cause disease, anti-vaccine claims, or the promotion of dangerous unproven treatments will be removed. So will discouraging people from seeking real medical care.
- If you post as a clinician or professional, be honest about who you are and about any commercial interest you have in what you’re recommending.
Self-harm and crisis
Limb loss can bring grief, depression and suicidal thoughts, and members should be able to talk about that here honestly. Talking about your own struggle is allowed and welcome.
What is not allowed: encouraging anyone to harm themselves, instructions or methods for suicide or self-harm, or content that glorifies it. We may remove that content and reach out with support resources.
If you are in crisis in the US, you can call or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline) at any time. Elsewhere, contact your local emergency number or crisis line. We are a community, not a crisis service, and we would rather you got real help fast.
What is not allowed
Content or behavior of these kinds will be removed, and may cost you your account:
- Harassment and bullying — targeting, pile-ons, threats, intimidation, unwanted repeated contact, or following someone across the platform to have a go at them.
- Hate speech — attacks or slurs based on disability, race, ethnicity, national origin, caste, religion, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, or serious illness. Ableism, and “inspiration” framing that dehumanizes people, are included here.
- Sexual content — pornography, sexually explicit material, sexual solicitation, and fetishization of limb difference or disability.
- Violence — threats of violence, incitement, or celebrating harm to people.
- Impersonation — pretending to be another member, a clinician, a manufacturer, or MyLimb staff, or faking credentials or qualifications you don’t hold.
- Spam and commercial abuse — bulk or repetitive posting, engagement farming, undisclosed advertising, affiliate spam, MLM recruitment, or scraping the community for a mailing list.
- Scams and exploitation — fraudulent fundraising, fake product sales, phishing, or preying on newly-injured members. This community is a soft target for that and we treat it very seriously.
- Privacy violations — posting anyone’s personal information (address, phone, email, medical records, workplace) without their consent, including your own family members.
- Illegal activity — including selling prescription medication or regulated devices unlawfully.
- Intellectual property theft — posting others’ articles, photos or research as your own.
- Evading enforcement — creating new accounts after a ban, or using multiple accounts to get around limits or manufacture agreement.
- Additional Prohibited Content. In addition to the examples listed in these Guidelines, you may not post, upload, transmit, request, or facilitate content that is deceptive, fraudulent, defamatory or libelous, obscene, pornographic, unlawful, invasive of privacy, rights-infringing, malicious, or designed to disrupt, exploit, or compromise the service or other users. MyLimb may determine whether content is prohibited based on context, risk, user safety, legal exposure, and the integrity of the platform.
User Responsibility
Lawful and Authorized Use Only. You are responsible for all activity that occurs through your account and for complying with these Community Guidelines, our Terms of Service, and applicable law. You may use MyLimb only for lawful, personal, and authorized purposes. You may not misuse the service, interfere with its operation, evade technical or policy restrictions, access data or features you are not authorized to access, scrape or harvest content or user information, share account credentials, create accounts for unauthorized persons, or use MyLimb in a manner that infringes another person’s rights or exceeds any permission granted by MyLimb.
Child safety: zero tolerance for CSAE
MyLimb, operated by MyLimb Tech, Inc., has zero tolerance for child sexual abuse and exploitation (CSAE).
This is absolute and has no exceptions. The following are prohibited on MyLimb, and are grounds for immediate, permanent removal without warning:
- Child sexual abuse material (CSAM) — any depiction, real, animated, illustrated or AI-generated, of a minor in a sexually explicit context.
- Sexualization of a minor in any form, including sexualized commentary, descriptions or “ratings” of a child’s body. Because families share photographs of children with limb difference here, we want to be completely clear: sexualized comment on any image of a child is an immediate permanent ban.
- Grooming — building a relationship with a minor in order to sexually exploit them, including moving a child to off-platform contact for that purpose.
- Sextortion — threatening to release intimate imagery of a minor to coerce them.
- Trafficking of minors, or soliciting, advertising or arranging child sexual abuse.
- Soliciting or requesting sexual imagery from a minor, or offering, trading or seeking CSAM.
What we do about it. Every post, comment and image on MyLimb is automatically screened at the time it is posted, and suspected child-safety content is removed and escalated to our moderators immediately. When we identify CSAE content or conduct we will:
- remove the content;
- permanently close the account;
- preserve the relevant records; and
- report to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) and to law enforcement, as required or permitted by law.
We comply with lawful requests from those authorities, and we will cooperate fully with any resulting investigation.
Age requirement. The MyLimb mobile apps are 18+ and are not offered to minors — anyone under 18 should use MyLimb through the website at www.mylimb.org. The minimum age to hold a MyLimb account at all is 13, and MyLimb is not directed to children under 13. MyLimb accounts may be created and used only by persons who meet the minimum age requirements MyLimb specifies for each service surface. Where MyLimb requires adult users, minors may not create, access, or operate accounts. If a parent, guardian, or caregiver shares information about a minor, that adult must control the account and is solely responsible for the content, consents, and legality of the disclosure. MyLimb may remove minor-operated accounts and any related content at any time.
Report child-safety concerns immediately. Use the in-app report on the content, or email safety@mylimb.org. Child-safety reports jump the queue and are reviewed ahead of everything else. If a child is in immediate danger, contact law enforcement first — in the US, call 911, or the NCMEC CyberTipline at 1-800-843-5678 or report.cybertip.org.
Our designated child safety point of contact is: Jeff Rainwater, Safety and Compliance, safety@mylimb.org.

What happens when guidelines are broken
Users may report content, accounts, or conduct through the reporting tools or support channels MyLimb makes available. MyLimb may prioritize, categorize, investigate, or decline reports in its discretion, including where reports are duplicative, unsupported, abusive, retaliatory, or outside the scope of these Guidelines. Reporting does not guarantee action, response time, or a particular outcome. MyLimb may share limited information about a report or its outcome only as it considers appropriate, necessary for safety, or required by law. If MyLimb determines that you or your content may violate these Guidelines, the Terms of Service, applicable law, or the safety or integrity of the Service, MyLimb may take any enforcement action it considers appropriate, including refusing publication, removing content, limiting reach, disabling posting functions, issuing warnings, requiring corrective steps, suspending access, or permanently terminating accounts. MyLimb may apply these measures with or without prior notice where permitted and appropriate, including immediately for serious or repeated violations, safety risks, fraud, ban evasion, or suspected unlawful conduct. MyLimb may, but is not obligated to, review appeals of certain enforcement actions. Any appeal must be submitted through the method identified in the notice or through support, within any timeframe MyLimb specifies. Submission of an appeal does not guarantee review, response, reversal, or restoration of content or account access. MyLimb may decline to consider repetitive, abusive, bad-faith, or unsupported appeals, and MyLimb’s decision on appeal will be final except where applicable law requires otherwise.
A note on moderation
MyLimb Moderation Rights. MyLimb may, in its discretion, monitor, screen, review, refuse, remove, blur, label, de-index, limit distribution of, or disable access to any content, account, feature, or interaction at any time for safety, legal, operational, or policy reasons. MyLimb may act based on automated signals, human review, user reports, third-party notices, or other information it considers reliable. MyLimb is not required to publish, restore, or continue hosting any content, and may take action before or after content becomes visible. Our moderators are people. They are working through a queue, often on difficult material. Please be decent to them.
Changes
We will update these guidelines as the community grows and teaches us things. When we make a material change we will post about it and note the change here.
